Widespread Empathy
In the nonprofit world, staying close to the work you are doing while running a complex and effective organization takes focus and dedication. This 2011 report from Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, which includes a case study about the Haas, Jr. Fund, shares stories how an organizational commitment to empathy and an understanding of grantee perspectives helps grantmakers improve their day-to-day functions and make a bigger impact.
“We felt a real need to keep reminding ourselves and our allies and friends what this work is about,” said Haas, Jr. Fund director of communications Denis Chicola in the report. “And what it’s about is real people who are living with the consequences of unequal opportunities. It’s about supporting nonprofits and movements that are working to make things right.”
